I can’t control the final product.
That’s the clearest message I can say about this photo.
It was taken after I got what I needed from the housefire shoot. I was on my way back to the office when I saw this lady pull in behind me and start running towards her house. I followed in pursuit, after I turned my truck back around, threw on the hazards, turned off the truck, got in the back to get my gear out and then catch up with this lady who had a 30 second head start on me.
The final product was a nice emotional image — of her grieving with her significant other just three days before Christmas — to a just an “ok” fire photo.
I know that I put in a lot of effort and energy to get this shot. The editors and page designers don’t. However, I was told that we don’t show emotion. What?
I guess that’s why I have this blog; to show all of you who view it what I think is good and what I worked hard to get.
Personally, it’s a moment that should have been shared with the rest of the city through print, I can guarantee you it would have been on the 6 O’clock news.
